We are delighted to congratulate our 2021 PhD alumnus, Dr. Mario Cancel-Bigay who will be taking up a tenure track position as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Global Musicology at NYU’s Liberal Studies School.
Since finishing the PhD, Dr. Cancel-Bigay has spent two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Columbia University, first as a recipient of the Early Career Fellowship in the Music Department and then as a Core Lecturer of Contemporary Civilization,
Dr. Cancel-Bigay's PhD dissertation in ethnomusicology at Columbia is entitled "Sounds that Fall Through the Cracks, and Other Silences and Acts of Love: Decoloniality and Anti-Colonialism in Puerto Rican Nueva Canción and Chanson Québécoise."
